OUR CLIENT
As heads of a family with grown up children who lived away from home, the clients were looking to downsize while still provide their children with space to stay over.
The original layout provided a poor use of the space and despite the generous footprint, it did not offer appropriate accommodation for family living.
The mother of the family, who has a keen eye for design came to us with a bundle of ideas and together we worked through those to consolidate them.
THE STRATEGY
Working in any listed building can be a challenge because not only it is important to identify the age of any historical features to define a strategy for their preservation but to find a way to minimise clashes with the client's vision who often expect to be able to create a blank slate.
In this project, given that the lack of original features, we were able to quickly stablish a strategy and agree it with the conservation officer but this is not always possible.
THE BUILT
Our client appointed the construction team who liaised with the freeholder's surveyor and dealt with any compliance requirements under the LTA and beyond.
Because this was the clients' home, they hand picking each of the finishes throughout and the site team kindly found ways to accommodate all changes requirements promptly to minimise impacting the overall progress.
